On April 9, 2025, the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2025 kicked off at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore with hosts Pakistan Women taking on Ireland Women in the opening match. Pakistan, batting first after Ireland won the toss and elected to field, posted a total of 217 runs in 49 overs, setting a target of 218 runs for Ireland to chase.Â
The innings showcased a mix of resilience and collapse, with Pakistan’s batting effort anchored by half-centuries from Sidra Amin and Aliya Riaz, though a late stumble prevented them from maximizing their potential.
Pakistan’s innings began steadily, with Muneeba Ali providing a solid foundation. Gull Feroza departed early, but Muneeba scored a composed 32 runs off 59 balls, laying the groundwork for the middle order. The 77-run partnership between Muneeba and Sidra was brought to an end by Jane Maguire in the 21st over.

Sidra, coming in at number three, played a patient knock of 51 runs off 112 deliveries, displaying her ability to anchor the innings. Her contribution was crucial in guiding Pakistan past the 100-run mark in the 27th over.Â
Aliya joined Sidra, and the pair forged a vital 72-run stand for the third wicket, pushing the score to 146 runs for 2 wickets by the 35th over. Sidra was dismissed by Cara Murray in the 36th over.

Aliya accelerated towards the end of her stay, finishing with a brisk 52 runs off 58 balls, injecting momentum into the innings.
At 175 runs for 3 wickets after 41 overs, Pakistan appeared poised for a commanding total.Â

However, the tide turned dramatically as Ireland’s bowlers fought back. Maguire emerged as the standout performer, claiming three wickets for 33 runs, including key dismissals that triggered a collapse. Arlene Kelly supported with two wickets for 34 runs, tightening the screws on Pakistan’s lower order.Â
From a promising position, Pakistan lost their last seven wickets for just 42 runs and were unable to bat out their full 50 overs. The visitors bundled out the Pakistani side for 217 runs in 49 overs in the first match of the ICC Women's World Cup Qualifier 2025.
