Chennai Super Kings (CSK) stand-in captain MS Dhoni put all the blame on the fielding lapses and dropped catches as the major reasons for his side's tame exit in the ongoing 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) season. CSK lost their do-or-die match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on April 30 at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk.
The CSK skipper stressed the importance of being sharper and more precise with their catching to be in a good position to qualify for the next IPL season's playoffs.

CSK batters, led by Sam Curran's powerful 88 runs and a handful cameo by Dewald Brevis's 32 runs, enabled the home team to post a competitive total of 190 runs at the end of 20 overs. However, it did not prove to be enough as PBKS hunted the target down with four wickets in hand and two balls to spare. Skipper Shreyas Iyer scored a sparkling 72 runs and was well supported by Prabhsimran Singh's valuable 54 runs at the top.

MS Dhoni pointed out that fielding blunders and the lack of ability to finish the innings powerfully enabled this loss against PBKS.
"I think the batting, yes, it was the first time that we put a good total on the board. But was it the par score,? No. We could have got more runs. But it was a great partnership that from Curran and Brevis," Dhoni said.

"I feel we have to take catches. It will help us slow down the opposition. From the batting unit, it was a good effort. But if you see, we didn't face the last four balls when we were batting, and we lost four wickets in the 19th over. 7 balls makes a big difference in a T20 game," he added.
