Former Indian skipper Mohammad Azharuddin has asked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for help after his name was removed from the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Uppal, Hyderabad.

Justice V. Eswaraiah passed the order to take his name down on Saturday, April 18. He works as the HCA's Ethics Officer and Ombudsman. His response came after the Lords Cricket Club filed a petition.

As per reports in Cricbuzz, the former Indian skipper reaped benefits from his position as the HCA president during his tenure with the organization. The report further said that his decision-making during his stay with the organization had conflict of interest issues. The petition highlighted the actions taken by Azharuddin that were vested in personal interests and not for the welfare of the organization.

Meanwhile, the former Indian skipper has finally reacted to the incident. He said that he has been heartbroken by the recent developments and regrets having played international cricket for the country.

"It pains me deeply to say this, but I sometimes regret having played cricket. It’s heartbreaking to see individuals with little to no understanding of the game now in positions to teach and lead. It's a complete disgrace to the sport," Azharuddin was quoted as saying by Gulf News.

He further said that he would be taking legal action against the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) and urged the BCCI to help him in the process.

"I am determined to pursue legal action against this injustice, and I urge the BCCI to intervene and take appropriate action. This issue isn’t isolated — Sunrisers Hyderabad also had a dispute with the association over passes, highlighting a pattern of conflict and poor governance."

The petitioner of the Lords Cricket Club further requested the Ombudsman to rename the North Stand as the VVS Laxman. It was also decided that no further tickets will be printed in Azharuddin's name for the rest of the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) home games at the stadium. SRH has three home games remaining at the Uppal Stadium, along with IPL 2025 playoff matches scheduled at the venue.
