Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are grappling with a major setback as reports indicate that their captain, Rajat Patidar, may miss the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025) matches due to a finger injury when the season resumes on May 17.
The injury, sustained during the match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), could potentially rule Patidar out for the remainder of the tournament, posing a significant challenge for RCB’s title aspirations.
Rajat Patidar’s likely absence threatens to unsettle RCB, who are second on the IPL 2025 points table with 16 points, trailing Gujarat Titans (GT) only on Net Run Rate.

Rajat Patidar’s Injury Woes Threaten to Disturb RCB’s Title Aspirations
RCB’s challenges are mounting Patidar’s injury. As per The Indian Express, the 31-year-old is likely to miss RCB’s next match on May 17, scheduled against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
He is wearing a splint to protect his finger. Moreover, his availability for the upcoming series against England Lions is also not clear. Had IPL not been suspended, Patidar would have surely missed at least two matches.
The RCB management is hopeful that Patidar gets fit by the end of the league stage. RCB already has reached 16 points, and they only need one win to officially qualify for the playoffs.
If Patidar misses a match, Jitesh Sharma is expected to serve as the stand-in skipper in his absence.

Josh Hazlewood Likely to be Unavailable for Remaining IPL 2025 Matches
Josh Hazlewood, nursing a shoulder injury, will most likely not return to India, as he would prioritize getting fully fit before the World Test Championship 2023-25 final. These absences test RCB’s depth as they prepare for the IPL’s restart on May 17, following a week-long suspension prompted by India-Pakistan tensions.
The BCCI has finalized a revised IPL schedule, with the remaining 13 league matches to be played across six venues, including Bengaluru, Delhi, Jaipur, Lucknow, Ahmedabad and Mumbai. The playoffs will begin on May 29 with the scheduled on June 3.
