India defeated England by 336 runs in the second Test at Edgbaston. This was India's first Test win ever at Edgbaston and the first under their new captain Shubman Gill.
This was also India's first Test win in the new WTC 2025-27 cycle after they lost the series opener at Headingley. India bounced back strongly with and made a statement of intent.
Despite, India being without Jasprit Bumrah, the likes of Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep stepped up to the plate and shouldered the bowling mantle for India. Siraj picked up six wickets in the first innings and Akash Deep picked up six in the second.

Meanwhile, Shubman Gill led India's charge with the bat scoring 430 runs in the Test match including a double-century in the first innings. He is the top-scorer in the series so far with 585 runs in the series.
Apart from Gill, Siraj and Akash Deep, Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar kept the scoring rate tight with their bowling efficiency. Jadeja scored half-centuries in both innings proving his impact with the bat as well.
All the talk was around the absence of absence of Jasprit Bumrah while Siraj and Akash Deep have proved that India's bowling lineup has a lot of depth and variety.
Meanwhile, after India's win at Edgbaston, they are now placed fourth in the WTC 202-27 points table. They have a 50 percent PCT after losing one and winning one game each. The table is led by Australia after their win in the first Test against West Indies. Sri Lanka are placed second, followed by England making up the top three. India are placed fourth followed by Bangladesh at fifth after their loss to Sri Lanka in the second Test and West Indies are placed last.
South Africa, New Zealand and Pakistan are yet to begin their WTC 2025-27 campaign. The Proteas, the winners of the last WTC are currently playing a Test match against Zimbabwe which is not part of this cycle.

Jasprit Bumrah To Return At Lord's
Meanwhile, in a massive announcement after India's win at Edgbaston, Shubman Gill, at the post-match presentation confirmed Jasprit Bumrah's return in the third Test at Lord's starting from July 10.
"Definitely (Bumrah back at Lord's?). Very excited for that (Lord's Test). Probably the most iconic cricket stadium in the world and as a kid everyone dreams about playing there and I think no bigger honour than to be able to captain your country and lead your team there" said Gill.
