Yashasvi Jaiswal's rise in the last two years has been simply phenomenal to watch. While the southpaw has cemented his place as the opener of the side in the Test format, he is yet to stake a claim in the white-ball formats. That the 23-year-old is not in the team tells you how deep India's depth is. However, there might be an opening soon for the opener in ODIs as Rohit Sharma is in the twilight of his career.
So far, Yashasvi has just played a sole ODI and 23 T20Is, with Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma the preferred choice of openers in T20Is; the Mumbai batter is currently waiting for his chances in the shortest format. However, soon he might add more caps to ODIs as the youngster is selected for the three-match ODI series Down Under. Cricketer-turned-expert Aakash Chopra feels it is only a matter of time before the southpaw makes it as an all-format regular.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, the expert said that the fans might soon stop missing Rohit Sharma once Jaiswal starts opening alongside Gill in the 50-over format.

"It's just a question of when, not if. Yashasvi will play across formats very soon. He's already impressed in T20Is and scored a century too. He's been consistent in the IPL and was part of the T20 World Cup squad. After that, Shubman Gill moved ahead due to leadership responsibilities," Chopra explained.
"Gill became part of the Asia Cup side, but Yashasvi's turn will come. You can't keep him waiting for long. There's talk about Abhishek Sharma's inclusion in ODIs, but I think Yashasvi should get his chance first. If he opens with Gill, people might not even miss Rohit," he added.

Jaiswal's standout IPL season is yet to come: Aakash Chopra
Notably, with Rohit reaching 40 by the time the next 50-over World Cup takes place in 2027, there is uncertainty whether the veteran will play the showpiece event. With Jaiswal selected for the ODI series Down Under, it is the right time to groom the youngster.
The former cricketer further went on to state that Jaiswal's standout IPL season is yet to come. While the RR opener has amassed more than 500 runs on multiple occasions, he is yet to achieve a 750-plus runs or breach the 900 barrier.

"In T20s, I don't think we have seen his best yet. He's got the talent and the hunger. A 750 or even 800-run IPL season is definitely on the cards for him," he said.
